Hold on to your hats Wake County! It’s time to reassess the market value of real estate! Under the law, Wake County is required to do this every eight years. Our last revaluation was in 2000. All real property such as land, houses, office buildings and stores are scheduled to be reassessed according to their new value. With the growth Wake County has experienced and the market value increase in the last eight years, I am sure some people are going to be in for quite a surprise. Our values continue to increase and many of us have no idea what the market value of our property is currently.
In November, 2007, you should receive your new property valuation in the mail. This is the value that will be used to calculate your property taxes in July 2008. Most of us will see our taxes go up due to increased value.
Knowing your current marketplace value can be very helpful in protecting your investment. If you are interested in having a free market analysis done contact Michelle Edwards, Keller Williams Realty.

Cell phones, they are a necessity in today’s times, especially for Real Estate Agents like Michelle Edwards in Raleigh, NC. But for children with cell phones, things are changing. On Tuesday, September 4, 2007, AT&T is releasing a new program that will allow parents to control who their children call and when. It is meant to help parents keep the surprises on the phone bill to a minimum. A lot of parents had complained that they wanted their child to have a phone for emergencies and to call home, but they didn’t want them text messaging and talking all the time. For $4.99 per month per line, parents can add this feature called Smart Limits to a wireless plan. Parents will simply go to a website and set up the way they want their child’s phone to function. They can limit the hours the phone works, what can and can not be downloaded, as well as block calls from certain numbers. One very unique feature is that calls to and from parents from the child’s phone can override the restrictions. This service has a lot more to offer so visit Fox News’ article for the full story.

If you live in Raleigh, NC you will remember one of the largest fires our city has experienced. Thirty-eight townhomes in the Pine Knolls Townes subdivision were affected by the fire in February of 2007. The City of Raleigh spent $17,000 to have a report completed after that tragic fire. What are the results of that report? Two big changes, first, combustible materials need to be at least ten feet away from homes (this includes pine straw). Second, soffits must be fire resistant. A soffit is the material behind gutters on a building. Hopefully these changes will help prevent a further incident like the one at Pine Knoll Townes and protect other Real Estate in Raleigh, NC.
