The new Wake County Tax Values are out and some people are really surprised about the value of their property. By law, Wake County has to reassess the market value of your property at least every eight years. The last revaluation took place in 2000. This new assessment of value applies to “real” property, such as homes, land, commercial buildings and stores. Personal property values for items such as cars and boats are calculated every year.
You have probably just received your new property valuation in the mail. This assessed value will be used to calculate your new property taxes in July 2008. The actual tax rate will not be available until June 2008 when Wake County Commissioners set the rate for the current year. If the rate set is below the current rate for 2007 (.678 per $100) then your property value increase may not hurt so bad. If the rate is increased then property owners all over Wake County are going to be moaning. There is a process in place for challenging the new assessment. Information about that process is in the new valuation notice you just received or you can go to this link.
Since your home or business is one of your most important investments, it is helpful for you to know what its value is in today’s marketplace. If you would like to have a free market analysis done, contact Michelle Edwards and let her provide you with the latest market information.
